Blackdog Surfing Surf School is owned by Dean Johnston. Surfing has been his way of life since he first stood up on a surfboard at the age of three. Through his years of surfing experience in competing, judging, and coaching, He have realised how beneficial it is for his students (future surfers), to have professional instructions.  He is so grateful to have the opportunity to give back the pleasure surfing has given to him and all his staff, teaching surf lessons on the beautiful beaches of Byron Bay.

The family’s mascot, George, who is their black Kelpie cross Jack Russell dog, loves to greet students in their shop.  He is our family pet who they taught how to surf at the age of 8 weeks old.  He has his own board and likes to surf backwards.
