Hotel Woodenbong

Woodenbong Hotel, located in the heart of Yowie Country, is an excellent place to stay.

The weary traveller will find very comfortable and reasonably priced lodging at Woodenbong Hotel. They have 14 rooms, including twins, doubles, and two family rooms, all of which share bathroom facilities in the hotel, as well as three rooms with ensuites (extra cost). There is a communal lounge/TV area/dining area (with self-service tea/coffee). There is a covered outdoor area with access to a BBQ. Evening meals are served from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and counter lunches are served from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The hotel is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to a time that varies depending on patronage.

Woodenbong Hotel, located on the Queensland-New South Wales border, is primarily a timber and cattle town with a population of around 600 people. Your arrival will be greeted by some of the most spectacular volcanic plugs and rocky outcrops, including Mt Lindesay. Woodenbong is characterized by rolling hills, dense forest, and scenic beauty. Woodenbong is a sense of community, a way of life, and friendship.

There was once an Aboriginal settlement here. Poet Roland Robinson gathered Bunjalung folklore and translated some of it into English verse with permission from the Gidabal clan.


On the banks of Tooloom Creek, there is a picnic and barbecue area.

Rd. Beaury Forest Loop

To get to the Beaury Forest Loop Rd, take the road north-west out of town to Warwick and turn left after 6 kilometers into the unsealed road that leads through dry and moist hardwood forest and grazing lands. After 13 kilometers, take the left fork onto the sealed road to Urbenville.

North Yabbra Forest Loop Road is a road that runs through the forest of North Yabbra

From the eastern side of town, there is another forestry road that leads to Urbenville. Continue south-east (the road becomes unpaved after 2 km) through rainforest and moist and dry hardwood forest, past Edinborough Castle, another of the area’s volcanic plugs. About 17 kilometers from Woodenbong, turn right onto the sealed road that leads to Urbenville. This road leads through Yabbra Flora Reserve, which has a picnic area and a walking track.

Lindesay Mountain

Mt Lindesay is located about 10 kilometers north-east of Woodenbong, along the Mt Lindesay Rd to Beaudesert. It is a magnificent mountain that is part of the McPherson Range, which forms part of the state border. This is a popular destination for those looking for a challenging mountain trek. The final section is strictly for abseilers.

Woodenbong has a golf club, a swimming pool, tennis courts, scenic drives, and numerous other leisure and recreational opportunities. Experience some genuine Australian country hospitality.
